Hello, I’m Branwyn Two-Moon of Clan Lightridge and these are the Ersatz Echoes of Eastfjord Harbor for the week of Dryad Waning, 2019.
Over 50 candidates for the Eastfjord Harbor Town Council have already submitted completed documentation, and there are indications another 50 will do so by the end of next week. Initial reports are that three of the Grand Council members are campaigning to transition to town council positions., and that at least two more are considering positions on town councils other than Eastfjord Harbor’s.
This dramatic change in governmental style for the region may have been more of a surprise for the visiting Royal Messengers than for residents. To the best of anyone’s knowledge, such a style does not existing elsewhere in the kingdom and could not based on the laws and histories of other regions. The Pinecrest Valley’s unique history influenced its official charter when it joined Gemrest and have allowed the region to take these steps in self-autonomy without presenting themselves as a threat to the well-being of kingdom.
As the Royal Messengers ultimately report to the king and queen, it is unsurprising that potential recruits are being tested on their ability to recall details regarding the circumstances leading up to this change for a full report that will no doubt be delivered to our rulers themselves.
The Royal Messengers will be wrapping up their recruitment efforts the third day of next week and have informed us they will be contacting selected candidates directly. New candidates will then head out for training at the beginning of Spring Breaking.
Based on the forecast of sun and slowly rising temperatures next week, the roads should be reasonably dry for the main routes and mountain passes beginning to clear. Melting snow still brings a chance of flash floods, avalanches, and mudslides, so travelers in areas prone to such are advised to use caution.
Caution is also encouraged on the east end of the valley. The East Valley Trekkers have been able to dispatch two more virl, but not without cost. Guards are currently en route to a small ranch community or perhaps fifty in the northeast portion of the valley that is reported to have been wiped out by a virl when they attempted to engage it themselves.
Our hearts go out those who are lost.
Possibly more disturbing than the loss of life or that the fourth virl remains at large is the news that comes from the Black Mountain Clan of Feralix: a squad of ten experienced virl hunters sent to determine what drove the the virl so far south have failed to check in. Anyone with information is asked to let their nearest government official know. In the meantime, the Black Mountain Clan is pursuing their own leads.
Leads on which vendors have special plans for the Journeymen’s Festival next week are not hard to find, one only need to look in a shop window and read its signs. As this is not a gather, no additional space has been allocated for stalls around town and every standard space has been spoken for. The energy from the festival should lift the mood brought on by this week’s news.
Rumor has it we’re in for a big announcement as well.
