Hello, I’m Branwyn Two-Moon of Clan Lightridge, and these are the Ersatz Echoes of Eastfjord Harbor for the week of Aura Waking, 2019.
The forecast for next week calls for foggy mornings and chilly nights, with high odds of light frost on the valley rim. Overall, the days continue to trend warmer, signalling summer’s imminence.
There is no news of those who are missing, and Feralix clans report the population of their hunting grounds seems lighter than it should and the lack of hunters’ tracks suggests game is not making back from where it went for the winter. Given recent incidents, they are being particularly cautious about their investigation of this issue.
The elders of the region are nervous, and the adults who lack their experience do not lack for context to know why, so they too are on edge. In turn, the children sense the unease and are less free with their joy.
I’m young enough to have not known the period of time before Gemrest, but old enough to remember how adults acted in response to its birth. The unease dwelling in the valley is similar now, but darker, and reminds me of a poem by an unknown author long dead.
I feel them
I feel them
Those drums of war
Pounding
Pounding
At my door
I hear them
I hear them
These songs of pain
Echoing
Echoing
In refrain
I know them
I know them
Those feeling lost
Seeking
Seeking
Justice of cause
I call them
I call them
The innocent souls
Working
Working
To keep them whole.
