Episode 53 – Week of Gnome Dusting, 2020

Hello, I’m Branwyn Two-Moon of Clan Lightridge and these are the Ersatz Echoes of Eastfjord Harbor for the week of Gnome Dusting, 2020.

If you guessed I’d wear myself out teleporting and gating people around the region and then to the capital, you were correct.  Whether or not you guessed that, thank you for your understanding in regards to the missed aethercast.

The forecast for Gnome Waning is… in flux.  Sylph-casters currently only agree on that. Most feel there is a small chance for snow mid-week, but the predictions otherwise are all over the place.  The night of the seventh day could bring the warmest night we’ve had in months, or snow that rises halfway to one’s knees.

My efforts to seek an alternate path to Irized for those wishing to fight fires was educational and ultimately unsuccessful.  The Guardians are unwilling to get quite so involved in mortal affairs, which I expected. What I did not realize is just how big Irized is.

I traveled to the Shrine of Air via the Shrine of Magic and exited into land claimed by no kingdom.  I knew this. I also knew that the land was unclaimed because there was nothing of value there save the Shrine of Air. So, while I had never been to a desert before, I had some idea of what to expect.

I had the scale all wrong.

Assuming one had water, food, and the ability to survive the day’s heat without issue, it would take nearly a month to travel by foot from the Shrine of Air to the nearest ocean shore… and another week to reach the edge of the fires.

Ultimately, my well-intentioned plan was unfeasible.

And I have never been so happy to be cold.

I did learn that the largest cities on Irized are no longer threatened by fire, though there are plenty of lives still in danger from it.  Aid cannot come swiftly enough for those people. Whatever normal was, it will not be that again in the foreseeable future, if ever.

The Ersatz Echoes of Eastfjord Harbor are brought to you by Red Wombat Tea Company, purveyors of fine and otherworldly tea. Red Wombat: We Dig Tea.

Also brought to you by the Shrinewatchers’ League, who are accepting donations of goods to contribute to the relief efforts in Irized. Arrangements have been made to stockpile resources at the Shrine of Air.

These have been the Ersatz Echoes of Eastfjord Harbor for the week of Gnome Dusting, 2020. Take care, and stay warm.
